Things are starting to buzz at work again and the management are frantically trying to infuse the troops with a new sense of purpose for Spring. Not sure how they think a party will help but we’re all ready to party for no reason at all so bring it on! The only problem as usual is that I have nothing to wear. Everything in the closet in the way of Office Party Dresses is either dull, old, boring winter stuff or last year’s summer dresses and none of that is suitable. In recent years, if you look at the current trends in America, you cant help but wonder this very question: do Americans care about their constitution? Obviously, the federal government does many things that aren’t permited by the constitution, yet the people keep voting the same people in the office and nothing ever seems to change. The country was founded on constitutional principles and many would argue that it’s what made this country great and so successful in the early years. But what has changed?
I’m not sure if anything has changed but perhaps the general understanding of constitutional principles by the majority of Americans. I believe we have forgotten about the constitution in many aspects of our society and it becomes more apperant in the current trends. The wars our country are in overseas are unconstitutional. The constitution says that only congress can declare war, yet we have gone into war anyways.
Furthermore, our entire banking system, the fact that we have a private central bank that prints money and loans it to our government is completely unconstitutional. Only congress has the power to coin money. Even if you explain these things to an average American though, they still wont really care about it. They may pretend to be shocked and concerned for a moment, but when all is said and done they will do nothing to change it.
Is the constitution worth saving? Most Americans might be board of the very question but it is legitimate. If this country is at all worth saving I believe the constitution is worth saving. I think the founders knew what they were doing when they wrote it. There are many current trends saying that young people are more concerned about the contitution than anyone else.
